Exclusión Social Y Pobreza. El Caso De Canarias

Abstract

Aunque en ocasiones ambos conceptos se confundan, la exclusión social y la pobreza constituyen procesos diferentes, íntimamente relacionados y tan complejos como preocupantes. Son diferentes porque se refieren a situaciones y experiencias claramente identificadas; están relacionados porque, en general, la exclusión incluye a la pobreza y constituye un proceso más amplio que ésta; y son complejos porque afectan a muchos colectivos en casi todos los ámbitos posibles (económico, educativo, laboral, etc.), lo que dificulta su medición y análisis. Son preocupantes porque, especialmente en estos años de crisis, la exclusión y la pobreza están asociados al sufrimiento de muchas personas, y porque, en definitiva, ponen de manifiesto las carencias y limitaciones del Estado del Bienestar y de los mercados. Sea como fuere, los datos presentados sobre la exclusión y la pobreza en Canarias no son nada alentadores y permiten afirmar que el Archipiélago se encuentra entre los cinco territorios españoles con mayores indicadores de pobreza y exclusión.
