Abstract

En este artículo se lleva a cabo una revisión del estado actual de la investigación en los temas: Visualización Científica, Visualización de Información y Sistemas de Información Geográfica haciendo énfasis en la vinculación existente entre estos tópicos, además de esbozar algunos de los diferentes retos que enfrentan las comunidades científicas que trabajan directamente con estos, tratándolos tanto de manera separada como relacionada. Se muestran, también, un compendio de eventos y publicaciones que de una forma u otra tratan la relación entre estos términos y algunos ejemplos de software tanto propietario como Open Source que se emplean con este sentido, y se incluye la descripción de las principales características de cada uno.
