Abstract

Antonio Maceo, líder revolucionario del movimiento independentista cubano tuvo una fructífera estancia en Costa Rica entre febrero de 1891 y marzo 1895, aquí desarrolló nuevas vertientes de su pensamiento y de su accionar revolucionario por América Latina y el Caribe. A su llegada contó el apoyo múltiple de la sociedad costarricense, desde las más altas autoridades gubernamentales hasta el pueblo. Allí se forjó una amistad indestructible entre los revolucionarios cubanos y los miembros de aquella sociedad que fue símbolo de la solidaridad y del latinoamericanismo, en las condiciones históricas de finales del siglo XIX.
