Los Habitantes De La República Son Enteramente Libres. Constitucionalismo Contra Esclavitud En 1869

Abstract

La Constitución cubana de 10 de abril de 1868, aunque en un entorno social dominado por una economía esclavista, no supuso una abolición directa de la institución de la esclavitud en Cuba, en buena medida porque la clase social llamada a hacer la revolución era la de los hacendados esclavistas, y tal medida habría supuesto su suicidio como clase. Esta se alcanzó, no obstante, merced un proceso de radicalización de la lucha independentista librada contra el poder español, dado por la propia dinámica que adquirió el conflicto, y también por la incorporación a la misma de otros sectores sociales menos comprometidos.
