Abstract

En el siglo VI, el inglés era el resultado de los dialectos traídos a Inglaterra por los sajones, yutos y anglos por un lado, y los celtas, romanos y escandinavos por otro. El primer grupo dotó al inglés de la mayor parte de su vocabulario y asentó las bases de su gramática. El segundo grupo trajo consigo una influencia a nivel de vocabulario y que, en el caso de los romanos, se considera bastante importante. Dicha importancia hace referencia al gran número de palabras adoptadas del latín y al hecho de que dicho vocabulario estaba relacionado con los aspectos más cotidianos y generales de la vida de los ciudadanos.
