La Conquista Normanda

Abstract

La identidad de un pueblo es el reflejo de los hechos que han ido conformando su historia, basada en la zona en la que la población se asienta, los pueblos que lo han invadido y la cultura y el habla, que como consecuencia de la invasión han modificado parte de su esencia. A principios del siglo XI, la Conquista Normanda, 1066, significó la mayor influencia de la historia en la lengua inglesa. Si Guillermo el Conquistador no hubiera llevado a cabo dicha invasión, el inglés probablemente hubiera permanecido como cualquier otra de las lenguas Teutonas, no tendría el número de palabras francesas que tiene en la actualidad y que le confieren un carácter casi más Romance que Germánico. Por tanto, la Conquista Normanda no sólo cambió el curso de la historia de Inglaterra sino también de su lengua.
