Abstract

Se ha señalado ya en varios lugares que la fecha de 1888 es un punto de referencia indicativo y significativo de muchos acontecimientos de relieve en el mundo del Derecho y de la Economía. Entre el 20 de mayo y el 9 de diciembre de ese año se celebró la Exposición Universal de la Agricultura, la Industria y las Bellas Artes de Barcelona. En 1888 venía al mundo el cardenal portugués más reconocido de las dos últimas centurias Manuel Gonçalves Cerejeira o nacían juristas europeos o americanos tan relevantes como Achille Donato Giannini, Luís Cabral de Moncada, Domingo da Costa Ferreira Fezas Vital, Nereu de Oliveira Ramos, Gyula Moór, Pierre-Adolphe-Juste Cathala, Jean Hérard, Elphège Marier, Paul Mercier, Charles Gawan Power o Carl Schmitt y en España Ramon d’Abadal i de Vinyals, la campeona del sufragio activo femenino Clara Campoamor Rodríguez, Lorenzo Miguélez Domínguez, Luis Lucia Lucia, Lluís Nicolau d’Olwer, Pere Font i Puig, Andreu Pere Bassas Figas, Juan Artal Ortells, Camilo Barcia Trelles, Ferran Valls i Taberner o Manuel Reventós i Bordoy. Fallecieron en 1888, entre otros, el penalista canadiense John Henry Willan, el profesor de Derecho romano de la Universidad McGill William Badgley, el civilista chileno Enrique Cood, el político y jurista José Victorino Lastarria Santander y el jurista argentino Domingo Faustino Sarmiento.
