Abstract

La fundación del Liceo Artístico Daniel Reyes en San Antonio de Ibarra constituye un hito de capital importancia. Sin embargo, a pesar de su trascendencia, no ha sido objeto de investigaciones rigurosas. El acceso a fuentes primarias y a la hemerografía local contemporánea ha permitido la recreación de ese marco conflictual, que facilita la observación de una empeñada pugna de liderazgos que, a la postre, se resolvería con la dimisión del párroco de San Antonio, principal artífice del nacimiento del Liceo e impulsor de un movimiento social de inspiración cristiana que acabaría chocando con los intereses de los caciques locales.
