Los bocetos de miología de Antonio Canova

Abstract

El presente artículo versa sobre una carpeta de dibujos anatómicos del escultor neoclasicista Antonio Canova, considerado el mayor escultor de la Europa de su tiempo. Canova era un maestro del desnudo, y por ende un perfecto entendido en las estructuras anatómicas. La carpeta, que se centra sólo en la miología superficial, se conserva enel archivo de libros raros del Istituto Superiore di Sanità, en Roma. Se trata de diecisiete dibujos acompañados de un cuaderno con la descripción de la musculatura exterior del cuerpo, y se cree que el que conjunto procede de una época, hacia 1780, en que el escultor se encontraba estudiando esta disciplina en la Academia romana de San Lucas.
