Las manifestaciones artísticas de la Ciudad Blanca: centro histórico de Mérida, Yucatán, México

Abstract

El centro histórico de Mérida, Yucatán, México alberga numerosas obras de arte y edificios de alto valor artístico. La ciudad, fundada por don Francisco de Montejo 'El Mozo' el 6 de enero de 1542 sobre las ruinas de la ciudad maya de T'Hó, tiene su corazón en el centro histórico donde se reúnen meridanos de todas las edades así como monumentos de cinco siglos. Patrimonio natural, tangible e intangible convergen para hacer del centro histórico de Mérida un ámbito de patrimonio cultural que manifiesta los avatares de su historia: el esfuerzo evangelizador, el auge porfiriano y el dinamismo modernizador del siglo XX.
