Las manifestaciones artísticas de la ciudad de los muertos: el cementerio general de Mérida, Yucatán, México

Abstract

Yucatán es un estado mexicano con una gran riqueza patrimonial, y dentro de su patrimonio cultural edificado, resulta de gran importancia artística y social el Cementerio General de Mérida, debido a la relevancia histórica de quienes en él se encuentran inhumados y al gran número de obras de arte que forman parte de los edificios funerarios que por su peculiar distribución constituyen una auténtica ciudad de los muertos. El presente artículo expone el desarrollo histórico del Cementerio General de Mérida, así como las características de sus obras de arte más representativas. Se incluye un análisis sobre la problemática actual en cuanto a gestión, uso y conservación.
