Abstract

Las grandes ciudades demandan una enorme cantidad de recursos materiales y energéticos que generan residuos contaminantes al medio ambiente. El objetivo de este artículo es estimar el impacto que factores asociados con la aglomeración urbana tienen en la contaminación del aire en los municipios de México. Primero se analiza si la contaminación presenta un patrón de aglomeración. Después, con un modelo espacial de Durbin, se estima la relación entre contaminación y aglomeración urbana. Los resultados muestran que la densidad del automóvil, el número de empresas y el consumo son los factores de mayor peso en la generación y aglomeración de contaminación del aire.
