Abstract

The present paper seeks to analyze, from the 1991 Class Structure, Consciousness and Biography Survey, the wage gap between public and private sectors and the gender wage gap for both of them. A switching regression model is used. The results confirm a higher wage differential in the private sector. Besides, it is shown then men would earn a higher salary working in the private sector. However, women with university degree would earn a higher salary in the public one. The index of Jenkins (1994), used to measure the wage discrimination among different groups by level of education and age, shows that women with university degree and those over 35 years working in the private sector are the more discriminated group.// A partir de los datos de la Encuesta de Estructura, Conciencia y Biografía de Clases de 1991, y con el método de estimación switching endógeno, se analiza las diferencias salariales entre los sectores público y privado y la discriminación por género en cada uno de ellos.
