Abstract

In this paper, we consider a variation of Brito, Littlejohn and Rosellón’s model, allowing for elastic demands to exist only on certain points of the line representing the Mexican gas network. We show that under these conditions, it may be not socially optimal to use the international price in Texas as a reference to set the price of a gas produced in Mexico, in spite of the existence of imports from the Texan market.// En este trabajo se modifica el modelo de Brito, Littlejohn y Rosellón para permitir que existan demandas de gas que no son perfectamente inelásticas y que se ubican sólo en algunos puntos de la línea que representa el sistema de gasoductos en México. Se demuestra que, en estas condiciones, tomar el precio de gas en Texas como referencia para fijar el precio del producto en México, aun cuando existan importaciones de ese mercado, no es forzosamente una decisión óptima desde el punto de vista social.
