Externalidades interramales en la industria manufacturera mexicana

Abstract

This paper presents econometric evidence on the existence of significant interbranch externalities in a subset of the Mexican manufacturing sector. The work is based on the Caballero andLyons (1990) methodology, which is constructed on the Hall (1998b) model. The 1970-1993 relevant details of the mexican economy and manufacturing sector have been accounted for. The empirical results suggest the presence of significant externalities in the Mexican industry.// Este trabajo presenta los resultados de un estudio econométrico encaminado a determiner la existencia de externalidades interramales significativas en un conjunto de ramas seleccionadas de la industria manufacturera mexicana. Se apoya fundamentalmente en la metodología de Caballero y Lyons (1990), la cual a su vez se erige sobre el modelo de Hall (1998b). Hemos tomado en cuenta, además, especificidades más relevantes de la economía y la industria mexicanas durante el periodo estudiado: 1970-1993. Los resultados de la pruebas empíricas sugieren una significativa existencia de externalidades interramales en la industria mexicana, aunque, debido al carácter primario de esta investigación, no es posible emitir conclusiones definitivas.
