Abstract

Cuando a comienzos del decenio de los cincuenta cursaba los últimos años en la Universidad de Chile e iniciaba en ella mi carrera docente, tuve la fortuna y el privilegio de vincularme con la recién creada Comisión Económica para la América Latina de las Naciones Unidas. La CEPAL, la Facultad de Economía y el Instituto de Estudios internacionales de la Universidad de Chile fueron las instituciones cuyo seno inicié y luego desarrollé, durante las dos décadas siguientes, mis actividades de docencia e investigación. Las personalidades exepcionales con quienes tuve la suerte de formarme y trabajar en ese periodo, y su compromiso pionero y visionario con el desarrollo económico y social de Chile y de la América Latina, me marcaron de manera indeleble...
