Exhortación a una reducción de la deuda por 125 mil millones de dólares

Abstract

Un grupo de estudio del Instituto Mundial para la investigación de la Economía del Desarrollo(WIDER , por sus siglas en ingles), que es una sección de la Universidad de la Naciones Unidas, solicita una reducción de 125 mil millones de dólares en la deuda que los países altamente endeudados tienen con los bancos comerciales. El doctor Witteveen, ex director administrativo del FMI, acepta con beneplácito la reciente iniciativa del secretario del Departamento del Tesoro norteamericano, Nicholas Brady, como "un cambio importante en la estrategia de la deuda", y afirma al respecto que no se ha llegado a un consenso con respecto a algunos aspectos práticos importantes. El informe, titulado Reducción de la deuda presenta las cuestiones clave en que es necesario llegar a un acuerdo antes de que se puedan poner en práctica los principios de la reducción de la deuda.
