Comentario a la reseña de SAÚL TREJO REYES al libro de PETER GREGORY, The Myth of Market Failure: Employment and the Labor Market in Mexico

Abstract

Para que la reseña de un libro sirva como guía útil a los lectores potenciales uno esperaría que proporcionara la siguiente información: i)identificar el próposito central del libro y evaluar el marco teórico en el que se emprende el análisis; ii)evaluar el análisis mismo; esto incluiría una evaluación de la importancia y la confiabilidad de la información empírica y de los métodos estadísiticos empleados, y iii)dar a cononcer las conclusiones alcanzadas y juzgar si éstas pueden derivarse legítimamente de la información y el análisis empleados. Por desgracia para quienes podrían interesarse por los fenómenos del mercado laboral mexicano la reseña de Trejo no cumple ninguna de estas funciones adecuadamente. Trejo expone mal el próposito central del libro. No entera al lector del gran conjunto de materiales originales empleados por el autor, más bien critica datos particulares a menudo erróneamente sin indicar cómo su uso podría poner en tela de juicio las conclusiones alcanzadas. Por último, no informa sobre los hallazgos principales del estudio...
