Abstract

The aim of the paper is to assess the impact of innovation in the Basque Autonomous Community region in Spain through geolocated social networks data. In order to achieve this goal a method is proposed in which geolocated data from Twitter are collected and the textual content is analysed focusing on the presence of the word «innovation» and other associated terms. The geographical distribution of tweets related to innovation suggests the presence of innovative poles in the case study area. These findings contrasted to other variables provide a better understanding of the economic impact of these innovative poles.
