Abstract

The beginning of the internationalisation of the Spanish companies in the early 90s, favoured an investing development that, because of its progress, speed and volume surprised those at an international level and, especially, in Latin America. The BBVA case is highlighted in the financial field, as just in a decade it has changed from being exclusively in Spain into becoming an internationally recognised bank. The present article describes the internationalisation process developed in Latin America by BBVA. Its effectiveness involves a clear cut in prices, new products and financial services adjusted to the idiosyncrasy of each country. The main immediate challenge is getting the main exchanges of the informal economy in the formal financial system.
