Abstract

This article presents some of the most important aspects of the analysis of the provision of incentives and of contract design in environments where the central problem is knowledge generation or transfer. The article also describes the private incentives and the present social incentives in various situations and then, without intending to be exhaustive, the advantages and inconveniences of certain mechanisms are described focusing on the incentives they generate. The technological policy and the contracts that allow companies to collaborate in R+D or to transfer technology are also discussed.
