Abstract

The study of economic convergence has recently generated considerable interest. As it has traditionally been associated to exogenous growth models, analysis of this convergence has been turned into a domain in which the relative merits of the various theoretical approaches are discussed. This paper argues that such an association is not fully justified, and that evidence of conditional convergence is not incompatible with the existence of permanent divergences between countries, which do not tend to decrease and which coincide more with some endogenous growth model forecasts.
