Abstract

This article describes the job market in the Basque Country Autonomous Community over a period of ten years, in order to approach the general pattern of employment in this territory. The review starts with a comparison between data from administrative registers of inscription in the Social Security and unemployment with data from a survey on employment carried out by the Basque Statistics Institute (EUSTAT), showing the various social groups covered by both sets of data. The article then continues to analyze the survey data more in depth, bearing in mind the nature of the survey as an instrument to describe the job market. The study then reflects the evolution of employment and unemployment by areas and ends with a comparison between our employment indexes and those of the main European countries.
