Abstract

This articte reviews the economic policy implemented by the Central Government and its consequences in the evolution of the economic variables of Euskadi. The analysis covers the time period starting in 1989, a short period in which important economic decisions were adopted. The work concludes that the antiinflationary policy executed by the Central Government has had consequences only in the industrial sector and that other measures were needed in order to enhance the capacity of the productiva system. The analysis suggests also that our economy would have been in a better position to confront the present economic downturn if the competitive measures suggested by the Government had been accepted, even with modifications, by other economic agentes.
