The patent and patent information scene in Australia in 1979 and in 2003; the patent practitioner's perspective

Abstract

In reviewing the last 25 years of development of patents and patent information in Australia, the authors highlight the increased rate of grant of patents, the change in what is patentable subject matter, the filing costs, the use of the PCT for filings for protection outside Australia, the progressively higher standards for novelty and inventive step, the increased patent term, the changes to the case law, the changes to patent application drafting resulting from these various developments, and the wider options for patent search.
