Abstract

This paper examines the foreign exchange generating potential of telecommunications investments in developing countries. Specifically, it examines the international transfer of funds by the banking industry as a means for comparing the foreign exchange generating capacity of two telecommunications technologies, the Telex general purpose system and the SWIFT network, a dedicated user's electronic funds transfer system.
