The character of the metastable phase singularities near the spinodal line

Author

  • Calvo, Miguel

Abstract

The behavior of the metastable thermodynamical functions for systems undergoing a phase transition is considered when extrapolated beyond the coexistence line. It is shown that the nature of the singularity depends nontrivially on which thermodynamical variables are held fixed. The experimental implications of these results are discussed.
