Diffusion and relaxation in porous media

Abstract

A lattice model that combines features of percolation and grain growth models has been used to study diffusion and relaxation in porous media. The model shows a percolation threshold at a somewhat lower value than in the percolation lattice. Near the theshold and also at large porosities the conductivity has a power law dependence on porosity with different powers in the two regions. The relaxation is very similar to that in percolation lattices, although the pore structures are quite different. Contrary to recent suggestions, it does not appear that the relaxation is an average over a region that is large compared to the pore size.
