Simple coulomb liquids

Abstract

The number of studies devoted to classical liquids of charged particles has increased very rapidly in recent years. With the aid of a few typical examples displaying the role of the long-ranged Coulomb forces which are always present in these liquids we intend to develop a general feeling for the current activity in this area. In particular, we will discuss the important modifications of the static dielectric constant when one increases the coupling, i.e. the ratio of the average potential to the average kinetic energy, in these liquids. The dynamical consequences of the static anomalies will be discussed on the basis of theoretical and numerical studies of the Van Hove correlation function. Finally, the transport properties of strongly coupled charged liquids will be considered.
