Abstract

The turbulent world in which we live is posing difficult problems for designers as they try to manage change and plan now for the successful artifacts of the future. Three areas of uncertainty are dominant -- the startling increase in the rate of innovation, conflict between global uniformity and national disintegration, and the drive for a capital -- intensive sustainable environment. Peter Gorb explores the issues raised for designers.
