¿Hay despoblación en el Brasil? Relaciones entre crecimiento demográfico, envejecimiento, migración e integración competitiva

Abstract

El concepto de despoblación aquí adoptado se refiere a un tipo de redistribución regional de la población en que la capacidad de revertir las pérdidas de población se dificulta por la situación demográfica y económica. Por una parte, el envejecimiento de la población disminuye el reemplazo de los emigrantes y estimula el aumento de los flujos de salida. Por otra, la dificultad de integrar competitivamente el territorio frena el desarrollo y disminuye el empleo. Se seleccionaron 49 microrregiones geográficas brasileñas con tasa de crecimiento negativa entre 1991 y 2010 y se analizaron diversos indicadores demográficos y de actividad económica. Los resultados muestran que la situación de las regiones seleccionadas es muy heterogénea, a pesar de la tendencia global de los indicadores a reforzar la hipótesis de un proceso de vaciamiento de la población a largo plazo.
