Producción y rentabilidad empresarial en el sector agrícola del Ecuador

Abstract

En este documento, se analizan los principales determinantes de la rentabilidad de las empresas pertenecientes al sector agrícola del Ecuador durante el período 2007-2017. Se presentan datos que indican que la productividad tiene un efecto positivo sobre la rentabilidad de las empresas que componen el sector agrícola, lo que sugiere que estas presentan una mayor ventaja competitiva, reflejada en mayores niveles de utilidades. Sin embargo, el stock de capital, la valoración del terreno, la inversión extranjera directa, la exportación y la antigüedad son variables que tienen un efecto negativo sobre la rentabilidad. Asimismo, cuando existen mejoras en el PIB per cápita, la rentabilidad de las empresas del sector agrícola se ve afectada positivamente debido a un aumento de la demanda agregada de productos alimenticios, que estimula el desempeño del sector.
