La gestión del régimen cambiario en Brasil

Abstract

En este trabajo se examinan cuatro hipótesis: i); en el Brasil, comoen los demás países periféricos en el contexto posterior a la crisis, sehabría optado por una política de tipo de cambio flexible dentro de unabanda cambiaria ("flotación sucia");; ii); los motivos subyacentes a esapolítica se relacionarían más con la transferencia de las variacionescambiarias (pass-through); y la demanda preventiva de reservas quecon el mantenimiento de un tipo de cambio real competitivo; iii); enesta singular experiencia se combina un contexto de amplia movilidadde capitales con la existencia de mercados de derivados financierosamplios y líquidos y el elevado costo fiscal de la política de acumulaciónde reservas; iv); hasta abril de 2006, el patrón de acumulación dereservas en el sistema cambiario fluctuante fue similar al del régimende bandas cambiarias; desde entonces se observaron cambios debidoal crecimiento acelerado de las reservas.
