El impacto de las exportaciones sobre el crecimiento en Chile

Abstract

La expansión dinámica de las exportaciones ha sido un rasgo distintivo de la economía chilena en el último cuarto de siglo. El liderazgo exportador,sin embargo,ha ido acompañado por un modesto crecimiento medio del PIB.El aumento anual del volumen de las exportaciones de 10%entre 1974 y 2001 convivió con un crecimiento del PIB de 4.3%. El auge exportador, persistente, ha estado acompañado de notables altibajos del PIB: incrementos de 8 a 10%varias veces y profundas recesiones de 14 ó 15%. Aquí examinaremos las similitudes y dife rencias entre tres episodios (1973-1982,1983-1989 y 1990-1999);, analizaremos la interrelación de la calidad de las exportaciones, el entorno macroeconómico y el crecimiento global de Chile, y esbozaremos desafíos para el futuro.
