Desafíos a la educación secundaria en América Latina

Abstract

La mayor parte de los países de América Latina asumieron en los últimos años,en forma implícita o explícita, el compromiso de universalizar una educación secundaria básica y de buena calidad.Pese a la diversidad de situaciones que se pueden encontrar en la región,es posible ver que este compromiso significa para cada uno de ellos tener que enfrentar simultáneamente las deudas educativas del pasado, que se expresan fundamentalmente en una cobertura parcial que no llega a todos los adolescentes, con los nuevos desafíos planteados por las exigencias de las transformaciones en la organización del trabajo,la cultura y el desempeño ciudadano.Partiendo del reconocimiento de este "exceso de demandas " sobre la educación, el presente artículo se propone mostrar algunos de los dilemas y tensiones más importantes que enfrentan las políticas destinadas a universalizar una educación secundaria de buena calidad en la región.
