Comercio exterior y fluctuaciones cíclicas en la producción de cerveza en México

Abstract

En este documento se analiza las fluctuaciones en la producción de cerveza en México y sus relaciones con los ciclos de México y de los Estados Unidos. Los resultados muestran dos aspectos interesantes. Primero, la mayor parte del comercio es inter-industrial a pesar del incremento sustancial en las exportaciones de este producto y de su participación en las cuentas con el exterior. Segundo, la producción de cerveza sigue una dinámica independiente de los ciclos de los dos países. Estos hallazgos sugieren la necesidad de realizar estudios sobre los ciclos a un nivel más desagregado, dado que la economía mexicana no se haya necesariamente sincronizada con la de Estados Unidos como un todo. Ignorar este hecho, puede conducir a posibles políticas sectoriales inadecuadas.
