Abstract

This paper presents an investigation where social, cultural, and recreational preferences and the sources of information for young people are analyzed, in order to know their influence in the selection of destinations and tourist accommodations, focusing on the knowledge and opinion of the youth on youth hostels. The results show youths with a high level of family dependency and a high esteem of friendship. Their expectations when travelling are mainly to have fun and meet people in coastal areas, although culture and monumentality are also present. They have a limited budget on their trips and often stay in inexpensive apartments. Young people have a high lack of knowledge of hostels.
