Role Of Individual, Cultural And Socio-Economic Variables On Female Labor Force Participation In India: A Regional Analysis Using Multinomial Logit Model, 2021-2022

Abstract

Female economic participation is an important agenda to achieve gender equality integrated in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 5) 2030. India has witnessed a secular decline in Female Labour Force Participation Rate (FLPR) despite economic growth. Thus, this paper investigates on the factors influencing female labour force participation (FLP) in India based on literature, data analysis and econometric method. The paper assesses the socio-economic, individual and cultural factors influencing female labour force participation (FLP) across Indian Regions (Eastern, Western, Northern, Southern, North East and Central) and Sectors (Rural & Urban) using multinomial logistic regression using PLFS unit level data 2021-22.
