Sauberes Wasser: Milleniumsziel kaum zu schaffen: Privatisierungsdebatte entspannt sich

Abstract

Die Vereinten Nationen haben das Jahr 2008 zum Internationalen Jahr der Sanitärversorgung ausgerufen. Der Weltwassertag am 22. März erhält damit eine besondere Bedeutung - nicht zuletzt, weil eines der zentralen Millenniumsziele der Vereinten Nationen verfehlt zu werden droht. Das Ziel, die Zahl jener Menschen, die keinen Zugang zu adäquaten Sanitäreinrichtungen haben, bis 2015 zu halbieren, hinkt dem Zeitplan deutlich hinterher. Dies hängt auch mit einer eher geringen "Popularität" des Themas Wasser und Abwasser zusammen - verglichen etwa mit dem weltweiten Modethema Klimawandel. So sind abwasserpolitische Themen etwa aufgrund kulturell abgesteckter Tabuzonen öffentlich nur schwer zu vermitteln. Der folgende Bericht gibt einen Überblick über den Stand der weltweiten Sanitärversorgung, zeigt die wesentlichen Hindernisse zur Erfüllung des Millenniumsziels auf und skizziert Strategien zu ihrer Überwindung.
