Polen vor dem Beitritt zur Europäischen Union

Abstract

Polen wird am 1. Mai 2004 der Europäischen Union (EU) beitreten. An die Mitgliedschaft in der EU knüpft sich die Erwartung, dass dadurch das Wachstum und somit eine Konvergenz im Lebensstandard gefördert werden. Mit einer Zuwachsrate des realen Bruttoinlandsprodukts von 3,7 % im Jahre 2003 konnte Polen nach zwei Jahren weitgehender Stagnation wieder eine spürbare wirtschaftliche Erholung verzeichnen. Der vorliegende Bericht, der in Kooperation mit dem Zentrum für gesellschaftliche und wirtschaftliche Analysen (CASE) in Warschau entstanden ist, enthält einen Überblick über die aktuelle wirtschaftliche Lage, eine Prognose der Entwicklung für dieses und das kommende Jahr sowie einen Ausblick auf die Schwierigkeiten bei der Vorbereitung Polens hinsichtlich der Teilnahme an der Währungsunion, die insbesondere in der sich merklich verschlechternden Lage der öffentlichen Haushalte begründet sind.
