Private Internet-Nutzung: Bildung und Einkommen auch bei Jugendlichen von großer Bedeutung

Abstract

Über die Nutzung von PC und Internet gibt es zwar eine ganze Reihe von aktuellen Umfragen; diese Erhebungen erlauben jedoch zumeist keine tief gegliederten Analysen zu den sozio-ökonomischen Determinanten der Nutzung dieser neuen Technologien. Mit dem vom DIW Berlin erhobenen Sozio-oekonomischen Panel (SOEP) liegt eine Stichprobe vor, die derartige Strukturanalysen erlaubt; bislang wurde die Nutzung des Internets nur indirekt erhoben. Mit der Stichprobe vom Frühjahr 2000 liegen nunmehr direkte Informationen über die Internet-Nutzung vor; sie umfasst jetzt 12 500Haushalte mit nahezu 25 000 befragten Haushaltsmitgliedern im Alter von mindestens 16 Jahren. Trotz der dynamischen Entwicklung der Internet-Nutzung spricht die Erfahrung dafür, dass die aus den gut ein Jahr alten SOEP-Daten abgeleiteten Aussagen in ihrem Kern auch heute noch gültig sind.
