Gesamtwirtschaftliche Bedeutung der Massenmedien trotz neuer Informations- und Kommunikationstechniken kaum verändert

Abstract

Seit dem Beginn der 80er Jahre haben neue informationstechnische Produkte wie Videorecorder, CD-Player oder neuerdings CD-RomLaufwerke fuer Personalcomputer das Angebot an elektronischen Medienprodukten fuer private Haushalte deutlich ausgeweitet. Gleichzeitig ermoeglichte der Ausbau der Rundfunkuebertragungskapazitaeten die Ausstrahlung einer Vielzahl zusaetzlicher Hoerfunk- und Fernsehprogramme. Das damit verbundene wirtschaftliche Wachstum der elektronischen Medien hat allerdings im Zeitraum 1980 bis 1992 nicht zu einem insgesamt hoeheren Beitrag des Mediensektors zum Bruttoinlandsprodukt oder zu einem hoeheren Anteil der im Mediensektor Beschaeftigten an der Gesamtbeschaeftigung gefuehrt, da gleichzeitig die mit der Produktion und Distribution von Druckmedien verbundenen Wirtschaftsaktivitaeten nur unterdurchschnittlich zugenommen haben. Hemmend auf das Wachstum des deutschen Mediensektors wirkte auch der zunehmende Importueberschuss, den Deutschland sowohl bei den elektronischen Medienprodukten als auch in der Unterhaltungselektronik aufweist.
