Die Einkommen in Ostdeutschland steigen weiter - auch die Einkommensarmut nimmt wieder zu

Abstract

Mit dem vorliegenden Bericht setzt das DIW die im letzten Jahr begonnene Berichterstattung zur Armutsentwicklung in Ostdeutschland fort. Definiert man Armut anhand der Einkommensverteilung in Ostdeutschland, so ergeben sich wieder steigende Armutsraten. Wird die Armut in Ostdeutschland hingegen am Durchschnittseinkommen in Westdeutschland gemessen, so zeigen sich aufgrund der Reduzierung des Wohlstandsgefälles zunächst stark und jetzt langsam sinkende Armutsraten. Die Armutsentwicklung erfolgt vor dem Hintergrund kontinuierlich steigender Durchschnittseinkommen bei einer starken Reduzierung der Erwerbsbeteiligung.
