Zur ökonomischen Rationalität des Geburtenrückganges in Ostdeutschland

Abstract

Nach der deutschen Vereinigung halbierte sich die Geburtenhäufigkeit in Ostdeutschland. Sie ist damit noch unter die international gesehen niedrige Geburtenhäufigkeit in Westdeutschland gesunken. Der starke Rückgang der Geburten in Ostdeutschland wird in der Öffentlichkeit vielfach beklagt. Die empirische Analyse zeigt, daß in Ostdeutschland vor allem Frauen, die große Sorgen um ihre wirtschaftliche Situation hatten, nach der Wiedervereinigung auf Kinder verzichtet haben .
