Abstract

Trans-Abstract: How can companies deploy their digitization activities and investments for an effective digital transformation? The global Corona pandemic has led to a veritable digitalization boost. Companies made investment decisions and launched digitization activities in a very short time to maintain their operations and mitigate negative business developments. However, it is unclear if these activities target at an overdue technological modernization or lead to a digital transformation. Our results based on a survey of 454 SMEs show that those firms with a digitization strategy benefited from the pandemic digitization boost and were able to make important progress in their digital transformation.
