Abstract

Trans-Abstract: In view of the digital transformation, economic developments and the succession gap, higher efficiency and attractiveness are required for the skilled crafts sector. The empirical study discusses which areas of business activity and processes are perceived by owners and employees as burdensome and unattractive and which they would like to outsource and/or digitize. In terms of business modelling, there are opportunities for business process and business model innovations that can be developed by the companies themselves, by startups or external providers. This paper identifies the needs, starting points for innovations and discusses the implications for future research and forms of collaboration between companies, craft organizations, universities and actors in the regional innovation ecosystem.
