Abstract

Considering the increasing importance and impact of Social Entrepreneurship and the yet relatively young and little progressed research in this area, this article uncovers the necessity of a unique definition of Social Entrepreneurship as well as Social Entrepreneur. By means of an extensive literature review and an analysis of existing empirical studies, the article confirms the low degree of maturity of research in Social Entrepreneurship and discloses research gaps and research question, which might advance further research. Besides a comprehensive illustration of the body of knowledge, with a special focus on definitions of Social Entrepreneurship and Social Entrepreneur, this state-of-the-art article contributes research by picturing relevant gaps in the research area and thereby bringing the research on Social Entrepreneurship forward.
