La industria azucarera española, 1914–1936

Abstract

España había sido uno de los últimos países europeos en introducir el cultivo de la remolacha azucarera. Hasta 1882, fecha en que se construyó la primera fábrica de azúcar de remolacha en la Vega de Granada, el mercado nacional se había abastecido básicamente mediante importaciones procedentes de las reliquias del Imperio —Cuba, Puerto Rico y Filipinas—, complementadas con una corta producción de azúcar de caña obtenida en la propia metrópoli a lo largo de una estrecha franja costera mediterránea de las provincias de Almería, Granada y Málaga.
