Abstract

First Special SessionThe first special session of the General Assembly, convened at the request of the United Kingdom to consider the question of Palestine, met in New York from April 28 to May 5, 1947. The original agenda for the session contained only one substantive item, the British proposal for “constituting and instructing a special committee to prepare for consideration of the question of Palestine at the second regular session.†To this was added, at the request of the Governments of Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria, an additional item: “The termination of the Mandate over Palestine and the declaration of its independence.â€
