The place of Industrial Goodwill in Commons’s theorization

Author

Listed:
  • Philippe Broda

Abstract

This article intends to show that the role of Industrial Goodwill in John R. Commons’s intellectual construction has been unfairly neglected. In promoting “industrial democracy” in order to solve social conflicts, this book yet contributes to make him aware of the limits of this model. No long time after its publication, Commons stops to refer to it. Then he becomes an institutionalist economist.
